About Me

I am inspired by organic/eco, zen, grunge, streamlined, modern, industrial, European, art nouveau, art deco, & Japanese ikebana design. My style is not frou-frou or girly. I love elemental design - using water, fire, wood, glass, metal, and mineral. Zen as in masculine and feminine, hard and soft, ying and yang, luxe and tattered, edgy and ethereal. My non-fresh wedding flowers ship worldwide and I offer vintage/rustic rentals and DIY wedding flower classes in the Placerville and greater Sacramento area.

"I am feeling the same way, macsgram. Jduffdesigns, I too miss being able to consult with other florists. However, I don't do that here. You might try wedding wire vendor forums, open to pros only, we help each other out there, and can talk "trade" talk. There is also flower chat, that is also a pay forum, florists only (although some there are not too friendly if you have a design studio and not a brick and mortar biz). These forums are great for general topics, but too open for the florist trade to discuss business topics."

"Look at Karen Tran's bouquet of the week's "new" cascading bouquet: http://blog.karentran.com/bouquet-monday/peach-cascading-bouquet/ I don't think she could've used the trojan method (oh, major ick factor!!) there with those tulips cascading down. Sure looks like they are inserted into foam, due to the angle they are positioned, and the handle is made wider. And, it doesn't have to be "natural stems" if they are completely covered, anyways. "

"BTW, I find it ironic that both of our instructors failed us....you should have also been taught foam also, and I should have been handtied also. I am much more comfortable with foam, and cascades, than handtied....and I love love love your handtieds!!! :) So maybe we can exchange some tips :)"

"Do you mean where the ribbon covers ALL the stems? I think you could do that handtied, with poly ribbon, couldn't you? Although then the ribbon would be wet for photos. So maybe a foam holder with faux stems (or insulation ala skinny pool noodles) to completely cover it up. I agree...we need a flower play day!!! :) "

Sola Wood Flowers – Forest meets the Beach – Tahoe Glam!

Vintage glam sola wood balsa wood flower wedding bouquet

A cold May day, an art director marries her sweetie.  Danielle definitely knew what she wanted.  A galleried artist herself, she made all of the wood slice details and the decorated the birdcage.  I was thrilled to be part of Danielle and Kris’ wedding!  Her wedding bouquet featured sola wood flowers (also called balsa wood flowers or tapioca wood flowers). Tres natural chic!  By the way – look at the way Lake Tahoe has several shades of blue….I call that “Lake Tahoe blues!” It snowed a couple of days before the wedding, and a couple of days after.  Weather is very volatile at Lake Tahoe – be prepared!

Flowers by Monique Wilber of A Special Day Designs (serving El Dorado County, California, the greater Sacramento area, and Lake Tahoe, and sola wood flowers worldwide) and Scott Andrew Studios.

The Lake Tahoe pier didn't need much decor, just some pinecones and tall grass in cylinders to mark the ceremony place
