Happy Birthday to painter Georgia O’Keeffe born today- November 15 1887.
“If you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for a moment.” – Georgia O’keeffe
O’Keeffe was one of the most significant artists of the 20th century. Known best in the flower world for her bold interpretations of flowers…
One of her most famous quotes involves flowers… and friends…
“Nobody sees a flower – really – it is so small it takes time – we haven’t time – and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time.” – Georgia O’keeffe
Georgia O’keeffe studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York. O’Keefe’s art was first exhibited in 1916 at a gallery in New York City.
By the mid-1920s O’Keeffe was already being recognized as one of America’s most successful and important artists.
Originally known for her paintings of New York City, a few trips to New Mexico created a change in style. O’Keeffe began painting New Mexico landscapes as opposed to her earlier city scapes.
However it was her images of flowers that first captured my attention… along with this quote about trees…
“I wish people were all trees and I think I could enjoy them then.”
― Georgia O’keeffe
Proudly O’keeffe’s poppy painting was placed upon a US Postage stamp… yet another testament to the amazing talent of this flower artist!
