Fairy Rings- Mushrooms Spores or Dancing???

Everyone is LOVING Fairy Gardens...My earliest introduction to Fairy Gardens was the "Fairy rings" ... my Grandpa Carnation Joe brought to my attention... in the yard or garden...And I'm seeing them all over the place here in Michigan...We had an incredibly wet spring, and summer so the "mushroom" (or "Toad stool" ) Population is intense... My Grandpa would tell the story... "The Fairies plant a ring of mushrooms... so they can dance around- even in the rain..." I loved the idea of the fairies gathering under the moonlight and having an event... right out in there in the garden... there were times I would sneak out of the house at night just to see if they were there... I imagined little carts, and musical instruments, lanterns, and ribbons and bells...PrintMy Flowerland Friend - Rick Vuyst told me the real story...Did you know that "Fairy Rings" are actually causedby the release of mushroom (toad stool) spores....because theyare round in shape... when the spores are release...they move outward  and away in a nearly circular pattern... as the sporesgerminate... they create the ring...Probably most likely the spores were released on a very quiet windless day... creating the nearly perfect circle...as the mushrooms grow they deplete the soil of nutrients inside the circle...Rick is so smart... I loved that he had a logical- nature based, horticulture answer for my question...Browse 100's of Flower Projects... HOW to Videos... Step by Step... Hosted by your  Favorite Flower Expert...
