It's Homecoming weekend in Comstock Park... my hometown (actually part of Grand Rapids MI)... and my niece and her friend are going to the dance tonight...It provides me with a fun opportunity to create a couple of flowers for my (*gorgeous) niece and her friend... and it allows me some creativity as well.We attended the homecoming parade to see my niece in the marching band... and as we were waiting at the local pub for the parade to start... I started thinking about what MY Homecoming flowers looked like... My date was on the pep squad... and she wore a uniform to the game... I got her a Homecoming Mum... A Big YELLOW Mum with a Black Pipe Cleaner "F" on it... (for the Fremont Tigers)...Back then... we attended the game... and then went right to the dance... me in my letter jacket and her in her pep squad uniform... with the big Football Mum...My Times have changed... My niece is decked out in a beautiful blue dress with sequins and all... her friend in a gold and red dress...  and I'm NOT making a Homecoming mum...I glued the first one... on a jewelry bracelet... using a Calla Lily, Hanging Amaranthus, Eucalpytus Blossoms, Rose Hips, Pine Cone Luecodendron and Brunia... Yep I said "glued"... I never wire and tape... not anymore! Gluing allows me to use COLD adhesive and create whatever I want... using delicate blossoms and just about anything...For my Niece... I created a composite orchid from mini green cymbidium orchids... about 5 inches in diameter... again... glued... fast and easy... and durable for the evening of dancing and celebrating...I love a composite flower... and because orchids are fragile... I broke off the throat of the center orchid and glued it back into place... so there wouldn't be any worries tonight! Thinking ahead... I remember those dances... and anything can happen! Not nearly as fragile as a football mum... and if I do say so myself... a lot Prettier! What are you making for homecoming this year?
