Giant Celosia- Attack of the Brain Fern!
It's that time of the year... I wait for it... as summer nears it's end and the days are really hot... It's the AnnualATTACK of the BRAIN FERN... hahaha!Giant Celosia arrives at the farmer's market... we have a farm that specializes in Giant Celosia... (my local flower seller used to call it "Brain Fern"... probably because the flowers look like a "Brain"...Perhaps you Struggle with Celosia?? Like many folks... they talk about the flowers or stems getting rubber like and the head drooping... The Secret is Clear...Celosia are Dirty Stem Flowers...yep... the stems seem to contaminate the water very quickly with bacteria... (other dirty stem flowers are SunFlowers, Stock, Kangaroo Paw... even Gerbera Daisies)Flowers with fuzzy stems are most likely 'dirty stem' flowersI picked up these Celosia... from my Local Farmer's Market...Now over 10 days old in a vase... seriously!!!The Blooms and the stems are Still firm, turgid and gorgeous...(although the leaves are starting to discolor)...you can see that in the photo...Here's my process...I used ICE COLD Water...and Chrysal CVBn Tablets Only...(No other Flower Nutrients)...I started with 2 Tablets for this vase... and thenadded an additional tablet each time I added water(about 2 quarts every third day or so)...you'll be sure to Notice the Clear water...(I never changed the wateronly Added fresh COLD water... )Miraculous....I love those little tablets from Chrysal...if you want to buy some... follow this link!Care for your FLOWERS like an EXPERT...The NEW uBloom Flower Care 101 provides ProfessionalCare and Handling Tips... to make your Flower Last LONGER!Available in the uBloom Store...
