Alligators in the Greenhouse- TRUE Story!
It was amazing growing up in a 4th Generation Family Flower Business.... not only did we have a flower shop but we acres of greenhouses... and they were pretty cool. These were not greenhouses like you see today... they were shorter because they were built into the ground to advantage the warmth of the earth (Below the frost line)... and they were made of Glass... Real Glass not poly or plastic...The Greenhouses were full of tropical foliage and also roses, carnations, mums... and other flowers... it was warm, humid and much like a jungle... I loved the greenhouses and especially at Night... My Grandpa... "Carnation Joe Green" kept Alligators in theGreenhouse... they started out small but they got bigger... and they lived under the benches...I don't recall any stories about anyone being hurt by the 'gators'...and I'm sure that made for some BIG Surprises... needless to say...My grandfather said that one day... one of the Alligators surprised an elderly lady... and she reported him... and thus the Alligators had to go the zoo...Life in the greenhouse with my Grandpa was always full of surprises ... that's what I loved so much about him...
