Donkey Taqueria - and Marigold Cocktails
Our visit to Donkey Taqueria in Grand Rapids- was fun for me- and the "Life in Bloom" Crew. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Grand Rapids Michigan- my home town! It started very flowery- when Brad took us to their Garden- it's pretty cool- because our friends Paul and Jess Lee- own both Donkey and the Winchester- and the garden sets between them on Wealthy Street. They grow so many of the ingredients used at their eateries- and flowers are no exception.Brad took us to harvest Marigolds- that are key ingredient in the Marigold Agave Cocktail - check out the recipe here! in addition to a few others - that make this Donkey Taqueria offering extra delicious! It's a great cocktail to help celebrate dia de los meurtos- the day of the dead. Legend has it- that the fragrance of the Marigolds- helps connect to the spirits of our Family members that have past- to bring them back for this day of Celebration. That's why Marigolds played such a bit part in the Disney Movie- Coco... another great Flower Inspired Bonus!Paul acquired this old "gas station" and converted it into a one-of-a-kind restaurant - that serves delicious drinks and tacos of all kinds- and other unique, original and creative Mexican Fare. It's a must in the summer when the patio is open- and it's hard to get near it on Cinco de mayo... when everyone visits this incredible location.I love home-made ingredients- and farm to table fare- and Paul and Jess always deliver. You'll see Paul in an upcoming show- when he participates in our Local Flower Power Challenge- to raise money for the Student Advancement Foundation- one of his favorite local charities- that benefits students in his neighborhood- and the Grand Rapids area.If you're making a trip to Grand Rapids- be sure and visit- and try out the Pork Belly Tacos... a personal favorite... and just about everything on the menu- if you're there for 2 nights- you can check out The Winchester- across the street! There's lots to do in Grand Rapids Michigan!
