Jason Osbourn - Local Beekeeper

Jason Osbourn- Local Beekeeper  (Filmed on JUNE 19, 2020)Jason Osbourn- Local Beekeeper and I founded our friendship over honey- and his Local Honey Business... I first met Jason at the Fulton Street Farmers Market- and we were so excited he was there... I knew his Bees and Apiary were closer to my house- so I was super interested in his LOCAL Honey- for obvious reasons...J and Jason - on location at his Local Beehives at Aberdeen Apiary- Grand Rapids MILocal Honey is extremely desirable - not only for it's delicious flavor- but also for the health and wellness benefits that can be enjoyed from consuming honey that is produced in your Local Area. Local Honey is helpful in reducing allergies- and also has far reaching health and wellness benefits. So thus began our discussion about Local Honey- his bees- where he was located- and IF he might want to join me on Life in Bloom for a segment about Aberdeen Apiary and his local Honey! Jason is the primary Bee Keeper- (and OWNER) of Aberdeen Apiary- he's also training his daughter and son - to be a beekeepers too... It's Truly a Family Operation- You know how that 'warms my heart' - being a 4th Generation Florist! (Be sure to follow Aberdeen Apiary on Social Media- to see the great pictures they post- Link below) I was so excited to see where Jason and (around a million) his bees- produce local Honey! These simple hives can house a Million or more- local bees... AMAZINGI wanted to learn more about the process- the do's and dont's - and see Jason and his bee's in Action!  Jason was kind enough to allow me and the film crew to follow him at the Aberdeen Apiary- and  learn more about his hardworking bees and LOCAL Honey created by these amazing Pollinators!Jason's Beehives are literally-  just a few miles from my home and garden- and for me- Aberdeen Apiary- is as LOCAL as I can get- here in Grand Rapids, Michigan. During our visit with Jason his local bee hives- he shared so much amazing information about bees and their talent for creating delicious honey. Jason is a lawyer by trade- but his hobby is bee keeping- and he makes you feel comfortable- around thousands of bees... and shares so much great information!"Don't act like a bear" was Jason's sage advice- when dealing with his bees!Be sure to stay tuned to uBloom.com/LifeinBloom for our BEHIND THE BLOOM Episode with Jason- where there is even more behind the scenes footage- and information about this Great Local Apiary! I wanted Jason to tell us all about his local honey production- and Jason offered this wise- sage advise- when visiting a bee hive production with about a Million Bees- "Try Not to Act Like a Bear" - this was so valuable- albeit fun, advice for me and the crew as we filmed these local pollinators!Watch the BEHIND the BLOOM with Jason (Coming SOON!)Jason advises - the Smoker is simply a distraction- for the bees- when he's got to be a bit more invasive- with his hive inspectionsIt's true- Bees don't really pay attention to you- if you stay out of their way and don't look like a predator- or disrupt their work schedule. Jason shared that the "smoker" is really a distraction- when he has to do something a bit more invasive- but for the most part- if he goes slow- and is patience and considerate- the bees don't mind this gentle giant- intruding on their world. It was fascinating watching Jason bare handed- with thousands of bees buzzing around- as he made sure- everything was safe, secure and 'going as planned"!Jason gave us expert advise- and allowed us to get up close and personal- WITHOUT Danger- Thanks Jason! If you're like me- and constantly interested in LOCAL HONEY- (you can purchase Local Honey in your area-) or reach out to Jason for some of his Local Honey!
