What could be more appropriate for Episode 402- Bein' Green- my green themed Life in Bloom episode, than a cocktail with bright green Chartreuse as an ingredient?
The #FlowerCocktailHour- cocktail for Bein' Green is called "The Verdant Lady" - Verdant translates to Green - so Green Lady - which is quite fitting for my guest- Laurie Keller who authored We Are Growing - which is very green…(and also was awarded the 2017 Theodore Seuss Geisel Award- for her book- that is part of the "Elephant and Piggy Like Reading" Series by Mo Willems!
Have you ever tried Chartreuse… it has a warming sensation, it’s very herbal in nature - it’s worth a try on its own to experience…” - My Friend Kameel- at my Local Speciality Store- informed me yesterday- that Chartreuse has become so popular- that there is a 6 month waiting list for this amazing liquor that is created from 17 different herbs and hand crafted by Benedictine Monks... Need I say More? There is Yellow and Green Chartreuse- as well as a Wooden Boxed very Exclusive bottling available!
Coming Soon: Behind the Bloom - J creates a companion arrangement for the Verdant Lady Cocktail- STAY TUNED!
VERDANT LADY {CHARTREUSE, GIN & MINT COCKTAIL}
A strong yet refreshing cocktail shaken with gin, green Chartreuse, and lime and served up.
INGREDIENTS
•ice
•3 tablespoons gin (such as Hendrick's Mid Summer's Night Dream) (1 1/2 ounces)
•1 tablespoon fresh, strained lime juice (1/2 ounce)
•1 1/2 teaspoons simple syrup (1/4 ounce)
•1 teaspoon Green Chartreuse (1/6 ounce)
•4 large mint leaves, plus a sprig for garnish (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
In a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice, combine the gin, lime juice, simple syrup, chartreuse, and mint leaves. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds, then strain into a coupe. Garnish with a mint sprig if you like, and serve.
NOTES
A teaspoon of Chartreuse may not seem like enough, but a little goes a long way and you can add more to taste if you like.
For a lighter cocktail, stir the drink with the ice, strain into an ice-filled tumbler, top with fizzy water.
I like Hendrick's gin here, but any decent, relatively mild gin that you like the taste of will do the trick.
Chartreuse can be found at specialty liquor stores or ordered online. Mason jar cocktail shakers are available here.
