A Visit to Green Point Nurseries in Hilo, Hawaii
In Today’s Video on uBloom.com- we’re visiting my life long Flower Friend: Eric Tanouye at Green Point Nurseries in Hilo Hawaii. We had the opportunity to visit Eric and his sons Jon and Chris at Green Point Nurseries Hawaiian Flower Farm during our visit to Hawaii- for Season 7 and 8 of “J Schwanke’s Life in Bloom”. I’ve known Eric for most of my Life- both he and his Father have been Leaders in the Flower Industry- and always have so supportive of the flower industry! For many many years- Eric sent Tropical Flowers from Green Point Nursery to my Family Business in Nebraska- and always supported the Nebraska Florist Society and NeMoKan Conventions with amazing Tropical Flowers for Stage Presentations by AIFD Members like- Phil and Cathy Rulloda, John Haines, Rene Van Rems, Bobbi Ecker and countless others!
Getting to visit this Flower Farm in Person- and to be hosted by the Tanouye Family is a dream come true! If you ever have the opportunity to visit- make it your #1 Priority! This farm is every bit as beautiful, peaceful and incredible as you might imagine… Of course the entire crew was welcomed with Much Aloha- with hand crafted Dendrobium Orchid Leis- that are a staple of this Family Flower Farm! Mahalo Nui to Eric, Jon, Chris, Neo and the Entire Green Point Nursery Family for this welcome.
We start this visit with Eric- as he tours me through the Cut Flower Anthurium Production Fields- and showcases his wisdom and expertise of his father- that still supports the location, growing material and mission statement of this Flower Farm! Eric also surprised me with a visit to the outdoor Heliconia Production –these plants are SO Massive- it’s like standing next to an Elephant… they are Incredible- and to see exactly where these Incredible Flowers- come from- and how they grow is Spectacular! Family is so very important to the Tanouye Family and this business… and I had the incredible honor to visit with two of Eric’s Sons- Jon and Chris during this visit… Jon Tanouye -showed me their amazing Cut Orchid production in their specialized Orchid Greenhouses - I caught up with Chris Tanouye in the Processing and Shipping Department.
This portion of the video is Awe-Inspiring- to be in the presence of thousands of Hawaiian Tropical Flowers - including Anthurium of all colors, shapes and sizes- (Including a Fragrant Variety - that was featured in an arrangement I created for a previous At Home with Flowers Video- You can watch it here!)- Ginger, Heliconia of all sorts of varieties, Shampoo Ginger, Orchids, and an incredible array of Tropical Foliages!
