It's Photo Friday! Long, Low & Lush!
Experienced floral designers know that when decorating lengthy tables (on a budget) for events usually calls for the 3 L's...Long, Low and Lush!Long: Because the table(s) being decorated are exaggerated in length...the centerpieces need to cover more area. A single centerpiece certainly won't do...and placing a few scant centerpieces down the table can look a bit sparse. Weddings and Special Events call for more drama. So, using very long containers is an option...but to find ones LONG enough can be a bit difficult to find. The florist could simply drape a flower & foliage garland down the center of the table...however, that might not have the desired look or feel the bride wants. A great option would be to make a series of centerpieces and place them close together down the middle of the lengthy tables. Votive candles can be placed in the small gaps between the centerpeices to visually "connect" the centerpieces and give the appearance of one cohesive design.Low: To keep on budget...low centerpieces are a thrifty choice. You can use shorter stemmed flowers...no higher priced, long stemmed blooms are needed. Low centerpieces are labor savers...quick & easy to assemble. Even the containers themselves don't have to be fancy or expensive...let the blooms themselves take center stage. Low designs also allow for easy communication across the table without anything blocking the visual sight line.Lush: Just because the centerpieces are low doesn't mean they have to be boring! Lushness in the long & low design brings with it incredible texture...which is one of the hot floral trends now. Florists can also play up COLOR in the design as well. Using fully opened blooms is a must...and adds a luxurious "feel" to the centerpieces.Club uBloom Member, Elaine Lemmer, owner of Branch & Bloom LLC in Portland, OR posted a photo on her profile page which is an excellent example of the Long, Low & Lush centerpiece design style. She created a series of centerpieces and placed them close together all the way down the long table. Her designs are full of eye popping color and "touch me" texture! The lushness of her designs add the drama the event calls for and fills out the length of the table very nicely. Her designs also seem quite "accessible"...they are close enough for the guests to smell and feel the flowers. I'm sure attendees of the event enjoyed Elaine's flower arrangements all day long.I hope that Elaine's photo has inspired you to create your own Long, Low & Lush design! Thanks Elaine for sharing your photo with us!
