This process stuffs the Day Lily with goat cheese- and then quickly fries them - for a delightful and delicious taste treat!Watch J create this fun Flower Recipe on Episode #305- Lilies in Bloom HERE!Stuffed Day Lilies: - Serves: 2 as a side dish, or 5 as an appetizerIngredients:10 day lily flowers, washed and insides removedsalt & pepper to taste1 cup goat cheese1/4 c parmesan cheesefrying oil - I used 1 cup Coconut Oil1 tsp Italian seasoningcotton cordThis just in- from a WONDERFUL Fan- Richard Miller- What a great suggestion... Batter Ingredients:1 cup 00 flour1 egg white1/2 cup dark ale or beer)pinch of saltInstructions:Mix Goat and Parmesean cheese with the Italian seasoning. Add salt and pepper to taste.Spoon a portion of the cheese mixture into each day lily flower, and carefully tie the ends closed.Once all the day lilies are stuffed:Heat the coconut oil in a high-sided pan.Once the oil is hot, mix the batter.The batter should be thick enough to coat the flowers.If the batter seems to thin add more 00 flour; if too thick, add more dark ale or beer.Dip the flowers completely in the batter, then carefully add to hot coconut oil. Only batter as many flowers as will fit into the pan- don't crowd them!Turn the heat down if it looks like the flowers are browning too fast.Use tongs to flip the flowers to cook the other side. (The exact time will depend on the heat of the oil.) Let the second side cook until the color is even.Move the fried flowers a paper towel while you fry the remaining flowers.The Fried Lily Blooms can be served with dipping sauce of your choice or served without sauce! Also, be careful not to eat the cord holding the flowers closed. Hold onto the string end- and bite the lily off like you would with a fried shrimp- holding the tail!Day lily DISCLAIMER: Only harvest wild foods from safe locations, free of pesticides or any pollution from vehicles or heavy equipment.
